Oh @MirabellaSophie you have not changed, by @camklose #Indivotes

Disclosure: Campbell Klose was Cathy McGowan’s media advisor at the 2013 election. Cast your mind back, if you will, to the 2007 federal election. A rogue Tony Abbott, let off his leash, went through the Coalition’s slim chances of re-election like a wrecking ball; abusing Labor members on live TV, giving erratic interviews and generally living up to Paul Keating’s observation of him as the ‘resident nutter’ of Parliament House. In a similar fashion, Liberal candidate for the seat of Indi Sophie Mirabella tore through the electorate and then the nation this week, leaving a trail of destruction in her wake and frantic ministers to pick up the pieces. She’s […]

The @Indigocathy campaign clean, #murdochmafia false smear declares war to regain Indi: @camklose comment

The constituents of Indi understand the Coalition’s tactics better than most. In the 2013 election, voting booths were postered, sometimes for 100s of metres in either direction, with negative, dramatic signs warning people not to vote Independent. It didn’t work. People grew tired of the negativity of the Mirabella campaign and voted overwhelmingly in support of change. The positive, values based, grassroots movement that propelled Cathy McGowan into power and kicked Sophie Mirabella out into the political wilderness became a beacon of hope for people across the country who were disenchanted by the lack of representation in the current political system. But the Liberal Party seem not to have learned […]

Rural Victoria rising up against #csg for #VicVotes, by #Indivotes campaigner @camklose

[clear]About a year ago the rural electorate of Indi had just about turfed out their local member, Sophie Mirabella in the shock result of the 2013 election. It was a result that not even the most optimistic political punter could have predicted. A huge community surge that wiped out a senior Liberal frontbencher in a ‘safe seat’. But that’s what happened. A community, fed up with a lack of representation from their local member, took on the responsibility themselves and achieved what many thought was the ‘impossible’. I worked on Cathy’s campaign from its inception. Throughout the campaign I witnessed rural communities across Indi harness an incredible amount of human […]

Cathy McGowan’s campaign for Indi enters the national spotlight as tweeps get the message out

by Cambell Klose August 14, 2013 Two months ago I wrote an article for No Fibs about Cathy McGowan running for the seat of Indi, in which I said “Cathy and her supporters are on a mission to let Liberal incumbent Sophie Mirabella know that she can’t take the people of Indi for granted, one town at a time.” Over the past few months we have already achieved this goal. From being a very safe Liberal seat that got nearly no media attention, the nation’s eyes have turned to Indi to see how the contest between community candidate Cathy McGowan and Liberal MP, Sophie Mirabella plays out. Over the past few […]

Chasing involved democracy in Indi: @Indigocathy v @SMirabellaMP

Margo: Cambell Klose has volunteered to do media for Cathy Mcgowan, a community candidate challenging Sophie Mirabella in the safe Liberal seat of Indi at the federal election. His piece is the 4th in our series on new political activists. Those of you who read Not Happy, John! know that grassroots democracy is very close to my heart, and if a resident of Indi would like to report Indi democracy in action from now till election day I’d be delighted to hear from you.   By Cambell Klose 10 June, 2013 For as long as I can remember my electorate of Indi has been a safe Liberal seat. Before […]
