Queensland’s new Employment Minister Grace Grace has denied claims by The Courier Mail that she has given up on youth unemployment across the state. In a Tweet published on Friday night, a defiant Ms Grace said, “I will never give up on jobs for Qld young unemployed.” Ms Grace also stated that she was, “completely quoted out of context”. Tracking Queensland’s long term unemployment rate. Campbell Newman has left the office of Queensland Premier with the trend unemployment rate up 1 percentage point over his term. Unemployment was 5.5 percent in March of 2012 but with the most recent jobless figures show it is currently at 6.5 percent for January of 2015. 162,800 Queenslanders are currently unemployed as opposed to 137,700 in March 2012. The November monthly trend jobless rate rose from 6.8 percent to 6.9 percent while seasonally adjusted figure fell from a record 7.1pc to 6.9pc. Queensland’s trend unemployment remained at 6.7 percent for October with 3,800 full-time jobs and 1,700 part time jobs disappearing for a total loss of 5,500 jobs. The jobless rate for September was also revised upward by Treasury from 6.4pc to 6.7pc. A total of 168,600 people are now unemployed in Queensland, up from 137,700 in March of 2012 when the LNP took office. In seasonally adjusted terms, unemployment rose from 6.3pc to 7.0pc.
