Under Trump US goes rogue in leaving #ParisAgreement reports @takvera

This article was originally published at Climate Action Moreland by John Englart, who has attended COP21 and COP22 as an NGO observer. President Trump has announced the United States withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, but says he is also open to a renegotiation. Germany, France, Italy and other nations say that the Paris Agreement is a framework agreement and is structured in such a way that it is not open to renegotiation. The announcement brought condemnation from many world leaders, negotiators and civil society. British journalist George Monbiot described it as a crime against humanity. The UNFCCC Secretariat released a statement saying it was ready to engage in dialogue with […]

Resistance and hope in the face of Trump #climatedenial – @takvera

Despite the climate denialism in a Trump administration, it will be difficult to stop the zero carbon transition already underway and driven by economic forces, with action by citizens, businesses and states. As the minutes ticked past midday with Trump’s inauguration on January 20, the whitehouse.gov website was swept clean of anything climate related. Obama’s record in this area has been officially archived and Trump’s pages announce an America First Energy Plan. The plan re-affirms that “Trump is committed to eliminating harmful and unnecessary policies such as the Climate Action Plan and the Waters of the U.S. rule.” This is the only mention of the word climate on the page. Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop evades on #climate change risk to security reports @Takvera

Australia’s Foreign Minister Julie Bishop attended Washington for a series of meetings on security and terrorism. But equating climate change as a security threat was just too much for Julie Bishop, evading a journalist’s probing question and replying with some untruthful spin on the Government’s climate change ‘good story’. This story was originally published in an earlier version on John Englart’s own climate blog. Bishop was invited to attend President Obama’s 2015 State of the Union address by House of Representatives speaker John Boehner. 11.10pm doorstop for @JulieBishopMP in DC after attending #SOTU pic.twitter.com/Lr1ttbqvCK — Lisa Millar (@LisaMillar) January 21, 2015 In his 6th State of the Union (SOTU) Speech […]
