The Australian media’s obsession with the gotcha-gaffe

When is a gotcha not a gotcha? When it turns into a gaffe. Overnight the media digested the Anthony Albanese gotcha and reheated it as the gaffe for today. So much of the media cycle was taken up in exploratory analysis, headlining and opinionating on this one again.

The mass media tends to school in the same direction but some journalists like the ABC’s David Taylor would channel questions to the leaders on the economy in a different direction.

The media is a hungry beast and its favourite prey is the gotcha-gaffe.

Some of the questioning from today’s media conferences.

Scott Morrison was also asked about the gotcha-gaffe.

The gotcha test also went north into Queensland where acting premier Steve Miles was asked about the state unemployment rate.
