Former Queensland state police minister, Jack Dempsey, has confirmed months of speculation that he will challenge incumbent federal energy minister Keith Pitt. Dempsey was part of former Qld Premier Campbell Newman’s government until the shock loss in 2015. Since then he has resigned from the Qld Liberal National Party and become mayor of Bundaberg. Newman has also recently quit the LNP to run for the federal senate as a member of the Liberal Democrats.
