Newman accused of lying over Stradbroke Island sand mining

  • Richard Carew writes, “Campbell Newman broke an election promise and rewarded a donor mining company with potentially $1.5 billion additional revenue. Belgian-owned sand miner Sibelco Australia Limited helped Newman win the last Queensland election with a $1 million-plus political campaign opposing the former Labor government”: Campbell Newman lied about Stradbroke Island mining promises.

Roy Morgan poll – Qld election too close to call

  • Gary Morgan writes, “This special SMS State Morgan Poll conducted over the last few days shows next week’s Queensland State Election too close to call with the LNP (50.5%) holding a narrow lead over the ALP (49.5%) on a two-party preferred basis. Opposition Leader Anastacia Palasczuk (51.5%) continues to hold a narrow lead as ‘Better Premier’ over Campbell Newman (48.5%) – and it remains possible the LNP could win the State Election although the Premier might lose his hotly contested seat of Ashgrove in suburban Brisbane.Queensland”: Election would be too close to call.

Election calculator points to minority government

  • When the latest ReachTEL poll data is parsed with Antony Green’s election calculator, the LNP finishes ahead but would need one seat from “Others” to form a government. Alternatively, Labor could form a minority government with the 5 “Others”. Then again, the “Others” could refuse to deal with anyone and form a sort of, senate-upper-house balance of power bloc. Who knows? One this is for certain, the Queensland Governor will make the 55th parliament sit before the
