  • With Queensland Governor Paul de Jersey out of the state, it was left to Chief Justice Tim Carmody to greet Premier Campbell Newman at Government House. Carmody had been controversially appointed by the Newman Government to the position of chief justice over the top of more experienced members of the Queensland judiciary.

  • The media stake out at Queensland Government House began early.

  • The morning edition of government backer The Courier Mail declared the election was on.
