Sue Higginson first fought on the frontline to protect State old growth native forests from logging in the 1990’s. She then studied law and became head of the Environmental Defenders Office to help enforce new laws passed by the Carr Labor Government, and watched legal protections fall apart. So she became an Upper House MP in 2022, filling the vacancy created by David Shoebridge, to try to help stiffen legal protection for native forests.
Here’s my interview with Sue on the state of play, the lawlessness of the NSW Government-owned Forestry Corporation, and the increasing aggression of law enforcement on the frontline in mid north coast State forests.
When I was young I saw an injustice. I locked onto a bulldozer and stopped the destruction of an old forest. It is now protected by law. I then became a lawyer, I then became an MP! I didn’t go to jail. I believe in democracy I am part of our democracy – so is Violet! #nswpol pic.twitter.com/Rmh6siFYv5
