After 24 years working as an environment and sustainability consultant for community groups, local government and businesses, and a not for profit organisation – and integrating a lifetime of physical activity – in 2012-13 Sally re-trained as a personal trainer, massage therapist and surf coach to help people rediscover the keys to their own health, wellness and fitness in ways that are fun, supportive, safe, nourishing, effective and real.
In 2013, she established Your Fitness Friend, a mobile fitness training and massage therapy service on the Gold Coast and hinterland.
“My vision is a service that integrates joyfully, generously and effortlessly with my own life and that of my clients,” said Sally.
“I call this our ‘Aloha Life’.
“I don’t believe we need to do hardcore bootcamps to improve our health, fitness and quality of life. I feel that an abundant, healthy life is based on connecting with our selves, nature, family, friends and our community in ways that nourish everyone.”
In 2010, Sally became involved in raising awareness about coal seam gas (CSG) and coal mining threats in her home region, the Scenic Rim, of which approximately 80{17ac88c265afb328fa89088ab635a2a63864fdefdd7caa0964376053e8ea14b3} is covered by CSG and coal exploration permits.
She is an active member of Keep the Scenic Rim Scenic and Our Land Our Water Our Future and is assisting with the organisation of community concerts and documentary screenings about CSG and coal mining in Queensland and NSW.
Sally has a PhD in Adult Education from UTS (2004) and is a qualified Fitness Trainer (Certificate III and IV, 2012), Surf Coach (ASI Level 1, 2013) with Surf Easy and is studying massage at the Australian College of Massage.
