Steve Hughes lives in rural Queensland. Hi has worked as an education professional for over thirty years and held positions including primary teacher, small school principal, advisory teacher for students with intellectual impairment, school counsellor and for the past nine years, lecturer in education at the University of Southern Queensland. Steve is married and he and his partner are parents to three young women. His research interests are in environmental psychology and the role of the environment in helping or hindering learning. He is also interested in social emotional wellbeing and learning. Steve is concerned about citizen voice in the political process and sees recent developments in social media as providing opportunities for promoting active citizenship, and giving voice to the diversity of Australians, who are concerned about how effectively they are being represented by their elected parliamentarians.
